Due to the high material and energy intensity, sustainable management is one of our central tasks. We have always recycled scrap and produced steel from it. Scrap iron is the most recycled raw material in the world and helps to save more than one billion tons of primary raw materials every year. Every steelworks therefore acts as a recycling plant. The almost closed water cycle in steel production is very important in terms of conserving resources, and to prevent lime precipitation in the heat exchanger and cooling tower, water-hardening chemicals are generally used. litenfeld is the only steelworks in Austria where the water for recooling is not treated with chemicals but by introducing CO2 controlled by pH value. This means no pollution of the environment by harmful and poorly degradable chemical substances.
An intact environment is essential. We face up to our responsibility and practise environmental protection in order to protect our environment and the world around us in terms of air, water and soil quality. Of course, we fulfill the strict legal requirements, but we never stop working to become even better.
REACH
Breitenfeld Edelstahl AG is working intensively on this topic and can guarantee that both the raw materials used and the products manufactured comply with the official requirements. We can assure you that the REACH regulations are not expected to result in any changes to the availability of our products and deliveries. The Breitenfeld Group observes the list of substances of very high concern in accordance with Article 57 and keeps abreast of updates for the inclusion of further substances in accordance with Article 58. None of these substances (as such or in preparations or articles) are contained in our products.
ROHS
The RoHS Directive has been implemented in Austria in the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Ordinance. Purchased electrical appliances have a CE marking and are also assessed according to energy efficiency classes so that resource-saving handling/operation is possible. A major focus is placed on substance bans and the regulated return to an authorized disposal company. Internal records of disposed electrical appliances form the basis for complete traceability.
CONFLICT MINERALS
Breitenfeld confirms that the alloys purchased by Breitenfeld Edelstahl AG do not contain any "conflict materials" and are therefore "conflict free" in accordance with the Dodd-Frank Act.
