Since I started my apprenticeship I have been able to enhance my knowledge in the different areas of our company. I started out at the forge training workshop for a two-month basic course during which I learnt basic skills, such as filing, sawing, welding, drilling and forging. This was followed by two months in the laboratory where I gained deeper insights into the processing of samples, working with analytical devices, the methods of analysing the composition of our steel and the treatment of our water for and after various processes. After I had completed my first year of vocational school, […]

The last couple months since the merger of the Breitenfeld Group to Breitenfeld Edelstahl AG have been as intensive as they have been successful. Sales in the ingot and bar steel business sectors could be significantly increased in terms of value and volume. As a result of this extremely positive development additional investments and the decision to further expand our special steel plant were made. These large-scale investments amounted to more than EUR 6 million and included a third electro-slag remelting plant with the appropriate infrastructure, such as annealing furnace, tilting device and an electrode welding plant. These new investments […]

This includes the efficient use of raw materials and energy as well as making sure there is a constructive and positive corporate culture which makes employees commit themselves to the company for a […]
The safety of our employees is our top priority, and therefore we are constantly working on preventing accidents in advance and on increasing occupational safety in our daily routines. In the metal-processing industry, occupational safety with coated surfaces is often used to protect employees from excessive exposure to radiant heat. Helmets with a gold visor offer protection against IR and radiant heat, that occur when working near melting furnaces and ladles. Gold-coated helmets are not only used in steel mills but also in aerospace.

Slag is the tool of steel production. The lighter slag floats on the melt and can absorb and bind unwanted elements from the steel. By that, you can increase the so-called degree of purity of the steel. After the work being done the slag has different colorings (depending on the elements absorbed) and is nothing more than artificially produced rock.
Depending on its chemical composition, steel changes its properties very strongly. If it contains more than 12% chromium, it is coated with a chromium oxide layer only a few atoms thick, which protects it from corrosion. An example of such stainless steel is cutlery. By immersing stainless steel in saline solutions, the salt eats wholes into the protective layer. This can happen, for example, when too much salt is used in the dishwasher.
In the fiscal year 2017/18, Breitenfeld Edelstahl AG benefited from a very good market situation. Structural changes reduced business processes in order to respond more quickly and efficiently to market changes. In April 2018, Breitenfeld AG, Schmiedetechnik Breitenfeld GmbH and Sonderstahlwerk Breitenfeld GmbH were merged retroactively with June 30, 2017 to Breitenfeld Edelstahl AG. The merger took place because of several reasons. The whole product range now appears under the brand “Breitenfeld Edelstahl” and with that, the whole Breitenfeld Edelstahl family grows further together. Breitenfeld Edelstahl AG can look back on an extremely positive business development in the fiscal year […]
In our forge in St. Barbara, we produce bar steel that we primarily deliver to our European core markets Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Today, bar steel is primarily supplied to the market in processed form – that’s why in addition to hot working and heat treatment, an efficient finishing line for processed bar steel is required. The latest and youngest addition to our Breitenfeld family is Hall 10, built in 2016. This new hall will house the new finishing line for peeled bar steel and the new peeling machine. The hall is 112 m long and 25 m wide […]
